PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia Flyers centre Danny Briere is expected to miss a month after successful surgery on his groin-stomach area on Thursday.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said in a statement that the procedure repaired "a nerve entrapment," and that the recovery time would be at least four weeks.

Briere had been with the team's American Hockey League affiliate Philadelphia Phantoms since Jan. 14 on a conditioning stint before undergoing the operation.

The 31-year-old has missed the last 22 Flyers games with a groin strain, and 31 of the last 32 overall due to injury.

Briere registered five goals and four assists in nine games with the Flyers prior to getting hurt. He had a goal and four assists in three games for the Phantoms.
