TORONTO – Philadelphia Flyers
forward Jesse Boulerice
has been suspended for 25 games, without pay, for delivering a cross-check to the face of Canucks’ forward Ryan Kesler
during NHL Game #50 in Vancouver on October 10.
The incident occurred at 11:39 of the third period. Kesler received facial injuries on the play. Boulerice was assessed a match penalty under Rule 21 for deliberate injury of an opponent.
“This was more than a careless and reckless play – it was senseless,” said NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell. “This was a deliberate cross-check to the face where Jesse Boulerice
broke the shaft of his stick on Ryan Kesler
’s jaw. Boulerice went out of his way to deliver the cross-check and we will not tolerate this kind of conduct”.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Boulerice will forfeit $63,502.75. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Boulerice will be eligible to return on December 13 at Montreal.
