The Philadelphia Flyers
announced today that center Danny Briere
has been activated from injured reserve, and defenseman Nate Guenin
has been recalled from the Philadelphia Phantoms. Also, the Flyers have loaned forward Claude Giroux
and defenseman Lasse Kukkonen
to the Phantoms.
Briere, 31, has played in nine games with the Flyers this season, recording five goals and four assists. He has missed the last 36 games with a groin strain, and underwent exploratory surgery on Thursday, January 22. Briere played in three games with the Phantoms on a conditioning assignment before the surgery, recording a goal and four assists.
In 88 career games with the Flyers over parts of two seasons (2007-08 to 2008-09), Briere has 36 goals and 45 assists for 81 points and 78 penalty minutes. He was signed as a free agent on July 1, 2007.
Guenin, 26, has eight assists and 40 penalty minutes in 42 games for the Phantoms this season. In parts of two seasons with the Flyers (2006-07 to 2007-08), Guenin has two assists and six penalty minutes in 11 games.
In 187 career games over parts of three seasons with the Phantoms (2006-07 through 2008-09), Guenin has seven goals and 30 assists for 37 points and 278 penalty minutes. He was signed as a free agent by the Flyers on August 16, 2006.
Giroux, 21, has four goals and seven assists for 11 points and 12 penalty minutes in 21 games with the Flyers this season. In 32 games with the Phantoms, he has 17 goals and 17 assists for 34 points and 22 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by the Flyers in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Kukkonen, 27, has two assists and 10 penalty minutes in 22 games with the Flyers this season. He has one assist and eight penalty minutes in six games with the Phantoms. He was acquired by the Flyers from Chicago along with a third round draft pick in 2007 in exchange for Kyle Calder
on February 26, 2007.
