Mahura agrees to 1-year contract with Panthers

Defenseman has NHL career high in points, could have become free agent after season

Josh Mahura agreed to a one-year contract with the Florida Panthers on Friday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 24-year-old defenseman has NHL career highs in goals (four), assists (seven) and points (11) in 54 games and has not missed a game this season.
Mahura, who is in the final year of a two-year contract he signed with the Anaheim Ducks on Aug. 9, 2021, could have become a restricted free agent after the season. He was claimed off waivers from the Ducks on Oct. 10.
"Josh joined our club just prior the start of the season and we felt his positive impact on our defensive group immediately," Panthers general manager Bill Zito said. "He brings consistency and energy to our blueline."
Selected by Anaheim in the third round (No. 85) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Mahura has 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) in 133 regular season games.
