Connor McDavid lifts Oilers in overtime

EDMONTON -- Connor McDavid scored with 2.6 seconds left in overtime to give the Edmonton Oilers a 4-3 win against the Florida Panthers at Rogers Place on Wednesday.
McDavid scored on a breakaway on a shot that was gloved by Panthers goaltender James Reimer, but the glove was past the goal line. The goal was awarded after a review. McDavid also had two assists to reach 102 NHL points in 92 games.

"I thought it went in just because [Reimer] was already in his net, basically," McDavid said. "The refs did a good job and the guys back in Toronto doing the video [review] did a good job to find a clear shot of it."
McDavid took a long pass from Leon Draisaitl and made a move before shooting the puck to Reimer's left.
"I don't think any goalie will agree with that call," Reimer said. "Obviously he's a good player, and I think 20,000 people thought it went in and I knew I had it in my glove. I didn't know if it crossed the line or not, but when I saw the replay I thought they might call it our way, but it was not the way the refs saw it, so you just go on with life. I'll take from it what I feel I can and just move on."
Vincent Trocheck, Michael Sgarbossa and Greg McKegg scored for Florida (20-18-9), and Reimer made 27 saves.
"The video is clear, they had a view of it in Toronto, they had a view of it right on the ice, so we're going to go with it," Panthers coach Tom Rowe said. "[Referee] Francis [Charron] made the right call as tough as it is. Talking to [goaltending coach] Robbie Tallas after the game, he said it was definitely in. The NHL does a real good job looking at the video review, it's tough, but you have live with the ruling."
Zack Kassian, Mark Letestu and Jordan Eberle scored for Edmonton (25-15-7), and Cam Talbot made 28 saves to extend the Oilers' winning streak to four games.

Kassian scored at 6:10 to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead, taking a pass from McDavid and sweeping the puck past Reimer. Letestu increased the lead to 2-0 at 13:04 on the power play when the puck bounced in off his skate.
Trocheck made it 2-1 at 17:13, snapping a shot over Talbot's shoulder. Sgarbossa tied the game 2-2 on the power play with his first NHL goal at 18:35 of the second period, batting a rebound past Talbot.
McKegg scored at 14:45 of the third period on a setup from Jaromir Jagr to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead. Eberle tied it at 3-3, ending an 18-game goalless drought.
"It's been tough. You are known as a goal-scorer and that's what you like to do," Eberle said. "The frustrating thing is that I have had so many chances and just haven't been able to finish. It was nice to be able to contribute in that fashion at a time when we needed the goal to get the two points."

Eberle kept the puck on a 2-on-1 and snapped it past Reimer at 17:01 of the third period.

Reimer slid across his crease to stop Milan Lucic on the doorstep on a setup from Kassian at 4:49 of the third period.

Trocheck skated back to break up a 3-on-2 with 5:02 left in the second period.

McDavid got enough on his shot to push Reimer's glove over the goal line in overtime.

McDavid reached 100 points (31 goals, 71 assists) fourth-fastest among active players: Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals (77 games), Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins (80), and Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins (89). McDavid is third-fastest in Oilers history: Wayne Gretzky (61) and Blair MacDonald (85), according to the Elias Sports Bureau. ... Draisaitl also reached 100 NHL points in his 156th game … Jagr has 16 goals and 41 points in 37 games against the Oilers.
