"Those saves changed the game," Panthers coach Bob Boughner said. "Reimer had a rough game the last time out, but I could tell this morning that he was focused on playing a good one tonight. He gave us a chance to win."
Trocheck made it 1-1 with a power-play goal at 10:09 of the third, knocking home a pass made by Huberdeau while lying on his stomach. Trocheck has eight points (three goals, five assists) in a five-game point streak.
"I really didn't have much going on tonight -- I felt like I was floating a little -- but when [Huberdeau] gives me that pass I had to put it in," Trocheck said.
In overtime, Matheson poked the puck away from Athanasiou in the defensive zone, chased it down and took a backhand that Howard stopped. Bjugstad tried to knock in the rebound, but Howard made a second save before Matheson slid the puck into the empty net.
"He's got great speed, which makes him perfect for 3-on-3," Boughner said. "He created the turnover and he just kept moving his feet on that play."
