The Calgary Flames signed forward Emile Poirier to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced Tuesday.
Poirier, the Flames' second first-round pick (No. 22) in the 2013 NHL Draft, is in his third season with the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The 6-foot-1, 184-pound right wing has 24 goals and 29 assists with 89 penalty minutes and a plus-18 rating. Poirier ranks seventh in scoring in the QMJHL.
Poirier appeared in three NHL preseason games, with a goal and an assist.
The contract has an NHL base salary of $832,500 with a signing bonus of $92,500 each year, and an American Hockey League salary of $70,000 per year. The contract has an average annual value of $925,000.
Forward Sean Monahan was drafted No. 6 by the Flames in June.
