CALGARY - Calgary Flames head coach Mike Keenan said defenceman Dion Phaneuf would not play in Monday's Game 6 of the conference quarter-final versus Chicago.
"He is not available," Keenan said.
Phaneuf was levelled by Chicago's Troy Brouwer with about eight minutes remaining in Saturday's Game 5, which ended 5-1 in favour of Chicago and gave the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead in the series.
Phaneuf got up and appeared dazed as he skated to the Flames bench and did not return to the game. He did not participate in Monday morning's pre-game skate and was not available to speak to reporters.
A Norris Trophy nominee last year for the NHL's top defenceman award, Phaneuf led the Flames in hits during the regular season and his powerful slapshot from the point is an asset on Calgary's power play.
The six-foot-three, 213-pound Edmonton native had three assists in the first five games of the series.
