broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period as Calgary edged Vancouver at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
Robyn Regehr and Alex Tanguay
each had two assists for the Flames, who failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season.
"It's nice to win the game," Regehr said. "We should have won the game, they had a very young lineup and we had a lot more veterans. It was good to get out there. I'm really looking forward to the season and getting out there again. I'm feeling pretty good."
Ales Kotalik gave Calgary a 2-1 lead just 14 seconds into the third period, but the Canucks evened the score less than three minutes later on an unassisted tally.
Leland Irving stopped 7 of 8 shots and was credited with the victory. Miikka Kiprusoff
started the game and made 17 saves.
"Even though it's preseason, it's nice to find ways to win in the third period. Our captain took care of that last goal for us," Tanguay said.
