Fitzpatrick posts shutout in Memorial Cup-winning victory

Blues prospect Evan Fitzpatrick had been stellar in between the pipes in the postseason, leading the Acadie-Bathurst Titan to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League championship, but he may have saved his best performance for last.
On Sunday, Fitzpatrick posted a 28-save shutout - including a 17-save third period - to help the Titan to a 3-0 victory against the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats to capture the 2018 Memorial Cup - the first in Acadie-Bathurst's franchise history. The Memorial Cup pits the champions of the Canadian major junior leagues head to head in a four-team round-robin style tournament to determine an overall champion.

Fitzpatrick's shutout was the first in a Memorial Cup championship-deciding game in 13 years, when London Knights goaltender Adam Dennis made 27 saves in a 4-0 win against Sidney Crosby and the Rimouski Oceanic in 2005.
A second-round pick of the Blues (No. 59 overall) in 2016, Fitzpatrick posted a 16-4 record with a 2.10 goals-against average and a .925 save-percentage in 20 playoff games for Acadie-Bathurst.

"I don't have words for this right now," Fitzpatrick told Sportsnet after Sunday's win. "It's something special and something I never would have imagined. I had a great team in front of me and an amazing defense."
Fitzpatrick signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Blues in March of 2017 and will likely compete for a spot with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage next season.
