First goal good omen for Hawks

Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook scored the first goal in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday night, and if history means anything, that's a good omen for the Hawks.

Seabrook's power-play goal at 12:17 of the opening period marked the 10th time in this year's playoffs that the Hawks have gotten the game's first goal. They are 8-1 in the first nine and have won the last eight -- Chicago's only loss when scoring first this spring came in its first playoff game, when the Hawks got the opening goal but surrendered four in the third period of a 4-1 loss to Nashville.

The Hawks won the only game in this series in which they scored first -- Chicago took a 2-0 lead in the second period of Game 2 and hung on for a 2-1 victory.

The Flyers allowed the game's first goal for the 11th time this spring. Philadelphia is 5-5 in the first 10 games, as opposed to 9-2 when it gets the opening goal.
