Fiddler scores natural hat trick as Calgary beats Red Deer 6-2 @NHL

RED DEER, Alta. - Tyler Fiddler recorded a natural hat trick in the second period Friday to pace the Calgary Hitmen to a 6-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey League season-opener for both teams.

Austin Madaisky, Ian Schultz and Michael Stone also scored for the Hitmen (1-0-0), while rookie Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Adam Kambeitz replied for the Rebels (0-1-0).

Martin Jones stopped 23 shots for Calgary.

Red Deer netminders Darcy Kuemper, who was pulled at 16:23 of the second period, and Kraymer Barnstable combined to make 26 saves.
