Fantasy buzz: Scheifele expected back; Panthers goalie situation

Jets center to play with Wheeler, Laine; Sateri starting again Friday; Luongo, Reimer injury updates; Gibson returns for Ducks

by Rob Reese @NHLReese / NHL.com Fantasy Editor

All season long, NHL.com's fantasy hockey staff will have you covered with daily lineup news, production trends and injury notes from around the League. We will identify how these developments affect fantasy owners in year-long (Yahoo) and daily (DraftKings) formats.

Scheifele expected back for Jets on Friday

Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele is expected to return to the lineup against the St. Louis Blues on Friday (8 p.m. ET; TSN3, FS-MW, NHL.TV). He has missed the past 16 games because of an upper-body injury. In his absence, the Jets are 11-2-3.

With Scheifele set to center the top line, Blake Wheeler (C/RW; ranked 11th in Yahoo) will move back to right wing. This will impact the value of rookie forward Jack Roslovic (less than 1 percent owned) who is expected to skate on the fourth line with Marko Dano and Nicolas Petan. Roslovic scored three goals skating alongside Wheeler and Patrick Laine. Unless the Jets find a way to get Roslovic ($4,600) on the power play, he should be avoided in DFS formats.

Kyle Connor's (15 percent) season long and DFS value will depend on his power-play usage. It's likely that Scheifele will replace him on the top power-play unit. Connor will still remain fantasy relevant if he plays on the second power play with forward Mathieu Perreault (C, LW; 28 percent), center Bryan Little (27 percent), wing Nikolaj Ehlers (ranked 74th in Yahoo) and defenseman Tyler Myers (120th in Yahoo). Connor ($4,700) provides decent value in DFS formats, averaging 3.1 DraftKings points per game.

Any combination of Scheifele ($6,900), Wheeler ($6,900) and Laine ($6,700) should be considered for DFS contests Friday. Scheifele has 24 points (10 goals, 14 assists) in 17 home games (4.7 DraftKings points per game).

Sateri starting again for Panthers; Luongo, Reimer injury updates

Florida Panthers goaltender Harri Sateri (13 percent owned in Yahoo) is expected to make his sixth-straight start on Friday against the Los Angeles Kings (7:30 p.m. ET; FS-F, FS-W). Sateri is on a four-game winning streak in which he has allowed six goals on 120 shots (.950 save percentage). He has averaged 7.2 DraftKings points per game over that same span and is currently priced at $7,500 on DraftKings, making him a value play in DFS formats. It's worth noting that Sateri is better at home (.930 save percentage) than on the road (.903 save percentage) so he should be considered a viable DFS option against the Kings.

In season-long formats, Sateri's value may take a hit with Roberto Luongo (41 percent) nearing a return. Luongo practiced on Thursday for the first time since sustaining a groin injury on Dec. 4. The Panthers are hopeful that Luongo will be able to start at least one of their four games next week. In 15 games, Luongo is 6-6-1 with a .928 save percentage.

Backup goaltender James Reimer (23 percent) returned to practice on Monday after sustaining a groin injury on Jan. 24. In 32 appearances, Reimer is 13-12-5 with a .911 save percentage. It's likely that the Panthers will ride the hot hand (Sateri) but should eventually mix both Reimer and Luongo back in soon, ultimately lowering Sateri's value.

Gibson expected to start for Ducks

Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson ($8,100) will start against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday (10 p.m. ET; PRIME, SNW, NHL.TV) after missing the past four games with a lower-body injury. Gibson has a favorable matchup against the Oilers, who rank 24th in the League in goals per game (2.8). He should rack up DraftKings points because Edmonton ranks fifth in shots on goal per game (34).

In Gibson's absence, backup goaltender Ryan Miller struggled, going 1-2-1 with an .874 save percentage. Gibson remains the Ducks clear No. 1 goaltender and should see a heavy workload the remainder of the season.
