DAL@VGK, Gm5: Gurianov scores PPG in OT

The Dallas Stars became the fourth team in NHL history to have two rookies score a series-clinching goal in one Stanley Cup Playoff year after Denis Gurianov's
power-play goal 3:36 into overtime
put them in the Stanley Cup Final with a 3-2 win against the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Monday.

Joel Kiviranta's power-play goal with 3:47 remaining in the third tied the game 2-2. He had scored 7:24 into overtime to complete his first NHL hat trick when Dallas defeated the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 in Game 7 of the Western Conference Second Round.
The Stars joined the 1926 Montreal Maroons (Babe Siebert, Nels Stewart), 1981 New York Rangers (Tom Laidlaw, Lance Nethery) and 1999 Avalanche (Milan Hejduk, Chris Drury) as teams with two rookies to score series-clinching playoff goals, but the Stars are the first to have each series-clinching goal come in overtime. Two NHL teams have had one rookie score two series-clinching goals in one postseason: the 1940 Toronto Maple Leafs (Hank Goldup) and 2012 New Jersey Devils (Adam Henrique).
Gurianov is the fifth NHL rookie to score a series-clinching goal in overtime that took his team to the Stanley Cup Final, joining Pep Kelly (1935 Maple Leafs, Game 4); Jacques Lemaire (1968 Montreal Canadiens, Game 5); Darren Helm (2009 Detroit Red Wings, Game 5); and Henrique (2012 Devils, Game 6). Gurianov's eight points (five goals, three assists) in three series-clinching wins this postseason are the highest total in NHL history by a rookie in one playoff year. His five goals are tied with Jeremy Roenick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1990 for most among rookies. He also is
one of eight first-year players with at least nine goals in one playoff year
.
Kiviranta has scored each of his first five NHL playoff points (four goals, one assist) in series-clinching wins. He is the second NHL player with his first five playoff points coming in series-clinchers (Peter Zezel, Philadelphia Flyers, 1985) and second to score each of his first four playoff goals in the same scenario (Duane Sutter, Islanders, 1980 and 1981).
