Facts and Figures: McDavid overtakes 300-point milestone

Connor McDavid reached another milestone Thursday when he had two assists in the Edmonton Oilers' 5-4 overtime loss at the Winnipeg Jets, giving him 301 points (104 goals, 197 assists) in 240 NHL games.

McDavid (21 years, 334 days) became the ninth player in NHL history to get his 300th point before his 22nd birthday. The youngest player to reach 300 points was Wayne Gretzky (20 years, 68 days) with the Oilers, followed by Sidney Crosby (21 years, 72 days) with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The fourth-year center is also the fifth NHL player since 1998-99 to get 300 points in 250 or fewer games, joining Crosby (219 games), Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals (237), Paul Kariya of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (238) and Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins (240).
McDavid has 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in a seven-game point streak and has at least one point in 174 of his 240 NHL games, including 86 multipoint performances. The longest drought of his career is three games, from Dec. 29, 2017 to Jan. 2, 2018.

Vasilevskiy sparkles for Lightning in return

Andrei Vasilevskiy showed no signs of rust in his return for the Tampa Bay Lightning. After missing a month with a broken left foot, Vasilevskiy stepped in and made an NHL career-high 48 saves to help the Lightning defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-1 at Amalie Arena for their eighth straight win, the longest active streak in the NHL.
The Lightning (25-7-1) moved within one victory of matching their longest winning streak since entering the NHL in 1992; they won nine in a row from Feb. 18-March 5, 2016. The Lightning are the first team to reach 50 points this season; they did it in 33 games, one shy of the Tampa Bay record set last season.

Vasilevskiy matched the Lightning record for most saves in a regular-season game set by Ben Bishop, who made 48 in a 5-3 win at the Carolina Hurricanes on Jan. 19, 2014. Vasilevskiy's previous high was 45, set in a 3-1 loss at the New York Islanders on Dec. 20, 2014, and matched in a 5-4 overtime win against the Florida Panthers on March 6, 2018.

Maple Leafs forward Patrick Marleau skated in his 738th consecutive regular-season game, dating to April 9, 2009. He passed Jay Bouwmeester, who played in 737 consecutive games from March 6, 2004 to Nov. 22, 2014, for the seventh-longest streak in NHL history. Marleau has the second-longest streak among active players; Panthers defenseman Keith Yandle has played in 745 consecutive games.
Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne made 19 saves in a 4-3 overtime win against the Vancouver Canucks at Bridgestone Arena for his 325th NHL win to pass Sean Burke (324) for 25th on the all-time list. The win moved the Predators (21-10-1) into first place in the Western Conference standings.

The Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes combined to score seven goals in the third period of Montreal's 6-4 win at Bell Centre. It was the fifth time this season (486 games) that teams combined to score at least seven goals in one period, which occurred 14 times in 1,271 games in 2017-18.
Canucks forward Jay Beagle scored his first goal of the season in the overtime loss at Nashville. He is the 24th different Vancouver player to score at least one goal this season, the most among all 31 teams.
