Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each had five points, and the Chicago Blackhawks scored a season-high eight goals in an
8-5 win against the Washington Capitals
at United Center on Sunday.

It was the third time Toews, who had three goals and two assists, has had five points in the NHL (Nov. 25, 2011, against the Anaheim Ducks; Feb. 21, 2017, against the Minnesota Wild) and the second time for Kane, who had two goals and three assists (Jan. 9, 2018, against the Ottawa Senators).
It was also the 10th regular-season game where multiple Blackhawks players had at least five points and the first since March 9, 2003, when Eric Daze and Steve Sullivan each had a hat trick and two assists in an 8-5 win against the Boston Bruins.
Toews' hat trick was his second of the season (Oct. 6 against the St. Louis Blues) and the sixth of his NHL career. With his second goal against the Capitals, he became the 17th player in NHL history to score at least 20 goals in each of his first 12 seasons. He has 47 points (21 goals, 26 assists) in 50 games this season.
Toews is joined on that list by Kane, who reached the milestone on Dec. 27, 2018, and is two points shy of 900 in the NHL. Kane has 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in an eight-game point streak and leads the League in points since New Year's Day (20), ahead of Calgary Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau (18).

Islanders win again

The New York Islanders won their fifth straight game, including their second consecutive shutout, with a 3-0 victory against the Anaheim Ducks at Nassau Coliseum.
It is the third winning streak of at least five games this season for the Islanders and the 12th time in their history they have had consecutive shutouts (first since Feb. 15-16, 2018) after defeating the Washington Capitals 2-0 on Friday.

Lehner earns Sunday's Pepsi Zero Sugar Shutout

New York, which leads the Metropolitan Division, has won 15 of its past 18 games and has allowed the fewest goals in the NHL (116 in 48 games) after surrendering the most last season (293).
Robin Lehner made 19 saves against the Ducks for his third shutout of the season and lowered his NHL-leading goals-against average to 2.02.

Andrei Svechnikov had the first three-point game of his NHL career for the Carolina Hurricanes in a
7-4 win
against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place.

Svechnikov, who was the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, had one goal and two assists and became the fourth player in his draft class to reach 20 points (22 points; 12 goals, 10 assists), joining Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin (No. 1 pick; 26 points), Montreal Canadiens center Jesperi Kotkaniemi (No. 3 pick; 23 points) and Ottawa Senators forward Brady Tkachuk (No. 4 pick; 23 points).
It is the second time each of the top four picks had at least 20 points before the end of January in the season immediately following their draft. Denis Potvin (No. 1 pick in 1973 NHL Draft), Tom Lysiak (No. 2), Dennis Ververgaert (No. 3) and Lanny McDonald (No. 4) also did it in the 1973-74 season.
