Everett Silvertips score 3 goals in second period to beat Tri-City Americans 4-1

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips used a strong second period to defeat the Tri-City Americans 4-1 Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Josh Winquist had a goal and an assist during Everett's second-period rally as the Silvertips scored three consecutive goals to snap a 1-1 tie.

Winquist's goal stood up as the game-winner as he scored on a breakaway less than two minutes into the period.

Reid Petryk, Josh Birkholz and Manraj Hayer also scored for Everett (19-37-9), which moved three points clear in the race for the Western Conference's final playoff berth.

Kent Simpson earned the win in goal with 30 saves.

Brendan Shinnimin scored the lone goal for Tri-City (45-17-3), which fell three points behind Portland for first place in both the U.S. Division and Western Conference.

Eric Comrie made 27 saves in net for the Americans.
