Esposito and Smith score pairs as the Rebels overthrow Lethbridge 5-3

RED DEER, Alta. - Cody Esposito and Carter Smith each scored a pair of goals as the Red Deer Rebels held off a late charge by Lethbridge to defeat the Hurricanes 5-3 on Saturday night in the Western Hockey League.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added a goal and an assist for Red Deer (17-25-1-6).

Carter Bancks and Carter Ashton found the net in the third period for the Hurricanes (25-22-2-2), but it wasn't enough. Bancks also scored in the first and assisted on Ashton's marker.

Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves for the Rebels. Lethbridge netminding duty was split between Juha Metsola, who allowed four goals on 19 shots, and Michael Tadjdeh, who stopped 13 of 14 shots.
