It's been a season of firsts for the Vegas Golden Knights in their inaugural season, and now they have their first playoff overtime hero.

Forward Erik Haula ended the longest game in the franchise's brief history when he scored at 15:23 of the second overtime to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 win against the Los Angeles Kings, staking the new guys to a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference First Round.

Here are some fun facts about Haula, who is in his fifth NHL season.

* Born in Pori, Finland, Haula was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the seventh round (No. 182) of the 2009 NHL Draft. Vegas selected him from the Wild in the NHL Expansion Draft.

* The Golden Knights picked Haula and acquired the other goal-scorer from Game 2, Alex Tuch, from the Wild in exchange for not taking core pieces from the team like forward Eric Staal or defenseman Matt Dumba, among others.

* Haula attended Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minnesota, which counts Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon and Jonathan Toews among its alumni. He went on to star at the University of Minnesota, where he scored 124 points in 114 games from 2010-13.

* Like many of the Golden Knights, Haula had a career year. He scored 55 points (29 goals, 26 assists) this season, topping his previous best of 34 points in 2015-16.

* Haula's game-winning goal, the first OT playoff winner in Golden Knights history, was set up by James Neal, who scored the first goal in Vegas history on opening night.
