PRAGUE, Czech Republic - New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias will play for the Czech Republic at the upcoming IIHF world hockey championship in Quebec City and Halifax.
The left-winger is available since the Devils were eliminated by the New York Rangers 4-1 in their first-round NHL playoff series.
Elias is scheduled to join the Czech team later this week at its training camp in Montreal, the Czech ice hockey federation said Tuesday.
Elias had 20 goals and 35 assists in the regular season and another six points in the playoffs.
He was also a member of the Czech team at the 2002 and 2006 Olympics.
The Czechs so far have 11 NHL players on the roster, including forwards Radim Vrbata of the Phoenix Coyotes and Ales Kotalik of the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle.
The Czech Republic plays its first game on May 2 against Denmark in Quebec City.
