Edmonton rides three goals from defencemen to 5-2 win over Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - Defencemen Tyler Hlookoff, Mark Pysyk and Adrian Van de Mosselaer each had goals to lead the Edmonton Oil Kings past Portland 5-2, spoiling the home debut of new Winter Hawks head coach Mike Johnston.

Logan Proulx and Brett Breitkreuz also scored for the Oil Kings (9-11-1-1), who erupted for four goals in the opening 25 minutes of the game and cruised to victory. Brent Raedeke had two assists for Edmonton.

Portland (3-13-0-0) replied with goals from Taylor Peters and Stefan Schneider, with the first of his WHL career.

Cam Lanigan made 27 saves to earn the win for the Oil Kings.

Kurtis Mucha stopped 25 shots for the Winter Hawks.
