Oilers halt 3 game skid with 3-2 win over Lightning

TAMPA -- Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist for the Edmonton Oilers in a 3-2 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Tuesday.

Leon Draisaitl and Warren Foegele scored for the Oilers (8-6-0), who ended a three-game losing streak. Jack Campbell made 35 saves.
Edmonton forward Evander Kane was hospitalized after sustaining a deep cut on his left wrist when Tampa Bay forward Pat Maroon accidentally skated over his hand in the second period.
Kane quickly grabbed his wrist and placed pressure on it. He was rushed to the dressing room where he could be treated by medical staff. He tweeted Wednesday that he's
"on the mend"
and "will be back."
"Everyone on our team and within our organization and most people in Edmonton are thinking about Evander Kane," Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. "When an accident like that happens on the ice that's where our first thought is. Shout out to the great medical staff we have in our organization and people here at the arena that were quick to respond."

Alex Killorn scored for the Lightning (7-5-1), who were 3-0-1 in their previous four games. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 26 saves.
"It's tough to come back in this league, it's much easier to play with the lead than without it," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "Again it comes down to we're just giving up one too many goals."
Foegele gave Edmonton a 1-0 lead with a short-handed goal at 7:45 of the first period after the Lightning failed to move the puck out of their zone.
"I thought the guys played great, the PK was amazing tonight," Campbell said. "We got a big shorthanded goal too from [Foegele] and were able to come away with a big two points."
Brandon Hagel tied it 1-1 at 9:53 with a one-timer from the left circle off a pass from Nikita Kucherov.
McDavid gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 2:09 of the second period when he stuffed in a rebound off a shot from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers captain has an eight-game point streak (nine goals, 10 assists).

Draisaitl extended the Edmonton lead to 3-1 at 4:07 of the period with a backhand shot from the slot. Draisaitl has a five-game goal streak and a nine-game point streak (seven goals, 11 assists).
"We got in real late after losing a tough one last night," McDavid said, referring to a 5-4 loss to the Washington Capitals on Monday. "I thought the boys battled hard and found a way to win. It's nice to show we could play a little defense after we had a couple games in a row where it got away on us."
Killorn scored on a redirection at 49 seconds of the third period to make it 3-2.
"They beat us in the special teams battle big time," Killorn said. "Letting in the short-handed goal and letting two [power-play] goals in. Not good enough. The second period killed us and that was the decision-maker in this one."
Maroon appeared to tie the game at 12:00 of the third period, but video review initiated by the NHL Situation Room determined the puck did not cross the goal line. Oilers defenseman Ryan Murray got a stick on the puck to keep it from fully crossing.
"We've got to be better, 5-on-5 we've got to get some depth scoring," Maroon said. "I thought we had a really good 5-on-5 game. We were getting chances and getting looks. I need to get in front of the net more."
