Kane lifts Oilers to 6-4 win against Kraken

Evander Kane scored three goals for the Edmonton Oilers in a 6-4 win against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle on Saturday.

The hat trick was Kane's sixth in the NHL during the regular season and second in 2022-23. He scored three goals in a 7-4 win against the Nashville Predators in Edmonton on Nov. 1.
"Obviously nice to help contribute to an important win," said Kane, who scored on each of his three shots on goal. "Big points with the division so tight. … Just trying to get into a rhythm heading into the playoffs. Tonight definitely helps out."

Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists, Zach Hyman had a goal and an assist, and Leon Draisaitl had three assists for the Oilers (39-23-8), who have won three straight and five of six. Stuart Skinner made 33 saves.
Edmonton is third in the Pacific Division, three points ahead of Seattle.
Vince Dunn extended his point streak to 12 games with an assist for the Kraken (38-24-7), who have lost four of five (1-3-1).
"Our team played a good hockey team today," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. "That's an even hockey game. We worked extremely hard, especially on the offensive side of the puck. We worked hard. … It's a disappointing outcome. Our team played hard. Our team played well."
Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer allowed three goals on 10 shots before leaving with a non-COVID-19 illness at 6:30 of the second period. Martin Jones made 10 saves in relief.
Hakstol could not elaborate on Grubauer's condition but said the illness became apparent at some point after the game began.
Seattle holds the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference, two points ahead of the Winnipeg Jets.

Kane gave Edmonton a 1-0 lead at 1:35 of the first on its first shot on goal, a wrist shot above the left face-off circle.
Jaden Schwartz tied it 1-1 at 6:34 by deflecting a one-timer in the high slot from Dunn, who has 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) during his point streak.
Kailer Yamamoto gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead at 16:36 by tapping in a pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
"We've got a lot of good players who can score," Yamamoto said. "They're a good team. They have a lot of good players over there. They find ways to score. They defend hard. Give a lot of props to them for sticking in it. But we found a way to win. That's a big 'W' for us."
Kane extended the lead to 3-1 with a one-timer 43 seconds into the second.
Jordan Eberle cut it to 3-2 at 4:07 on a wrist shot through the five-hole.
"I think we just gave them too many high-quality chances," Eberle said. "We had our chances. I think, for the most part, we were skating with them and creating plays."
Hyman scored 30 goals for the first time in the NHL when he made it 4-2 at 7:28, the first shot Jones faced.
Oliver Bjorkstrand took a pass from Yanni Gourde for a wrist shot in the slot, cutting it to 4-3 at 14:18.
"For big parts of the game, I thought we played well," Bjorkstrand said. "Obviously, when you play a team like that, they're good at scoring goals. The details have to be there. You've got to bear down."
Kane completed the hat trick with a wrist shot glove side that made it 5-3 at 10:20 of the third before McDavid scored his NHL-leading 58th goal from the left circle on a power play that put the Oilers in front 6-3 at 16:10.
Eeli Tolvanen cut it to 6-4 with 48 seconds left by finishing a pass from Morgan Geekie above the crease.
"It's a tough building. They're a good team," Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. "In the end, we found a way to get the two points in a tough building, so we'll take them and move on."
NOTES:Kane has two hat tricks in the playoffs, each coming last season. He scored three goals against the Los Angeles Kings in Game 3 of the Western Conference First Round on May 6 and another three against the Calgary Flames in Game 3 of the second round May 22. ...
