McDavid's huge night leads Oilers to road win

SEATTLE -- Connor McDavid extended his point streak to 17 games when he had a goal and four assists in the Edmonton Oilers' 7-2 win against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Friday.

McDavid has 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) during the point streak. He leads the NHL with 72 points (32 goals, 40 assists).
"I'm always working on my game, I'm always trying to get better," McDavid said. "Some nights it goes well, some nights it doesn't. That's the nature of this league, and I'm just trying to help the team win. That's what I'm paid to do."
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had four assists, Zach Hyman had two goals and an assist and Klim Kostin scored twice for the Oilers (20-15-2), who were without forward Leon Draisaitl because of an undisclosed injury. Stuart Skinner made 36 saves.
"I thought it was a complete team effort," Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. "We had 20 players pulling on the same rope tonight. We were able to start the game and play the way we wanted to play right off the bat."
Daniel Sprong and Brandon Tanev scored for the Kraken (18-12-4), who have lost three in a row (0-2-1). Philipp Grubauer was pulled at 3:55 of the first period after he allowed three goals on five shots. Martin Jones made 23 saves in relief.
"Our willingness to check tonight and be above and work without the puck was not close," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. "We get to this time of year and especially these good teams, teams that can go, you can't go and score your way to victory. That's what it looked like to me."

EDM@SEA: Hyman, Kostin, Nurse score for 3-0 lead

Hyman gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 2:44 of the first when he redirected McDavid's feed from the right face-off circle.
Kostin made it 2-0 just 31 seconds later at 3:15, and Darnell Nurse extended the lead to 3-0 at 3:55 when he took a drop pass from McDavid and fired a wrist shot past Grubauer from between the face-off circles.
Grubauer was pulled after Nurse's goal.
"I don't think it was just one thing tonight," Kraken defenseman Adam Larsson said. "It was just a lot of things. I mean, every team goes through a structure or a game like this, and obviously we'll talk about it and kind of see what we did wrong.
"We can do a lot of things better. I think we can be a lot sharper and play a lot faster as a team."

EDM@SEA: Puljujarvi scores in 1st period

Jesse Puljujarvi gave Edmonton a 4-0 lead at 9:58 from in tight after a pass from McDavid.
Edmonton outshot Seattle 16-8 in the first.
"Anytime you score four in the first, it's always a good start," McDavid said. "I thought they had a little push in the second, and we did a good job responding."
Sprong cut it to 4-1 at 1:50 of the second period, but Kostin scored again on a redirection at 5:33 to make it 5-1.
McDavid got his 40th assist of the season when Hyman tipped his wrist shot from the slot on a power play to give the Oilers a 6-1 lead at 6:35.
Tanev cut it to 6-2 at 7:33, but McDavid scored on a breakaway at 10:43 of the third period for the 7-2 final.
"Great game by all of us, great effort by the team," Kostin said. "We started the game simple, by following our plan that the coach said before the game."
