DETROIT -- Kyle Brodziak scored his first two goals of the season for the Edmonton Oilers in a 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday.

"This was a pretty exciting night for Kyle and the team," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "We really rallied around his line all night. They not only scored a couple goals, but they were our best forechecking line."
Drake Caggiula and Alex Chiasson scored, and Mikko Koskinen made 23 saves for Edmonton (8-4-1), which is 5-1-1 in its past seven games. Connor McDavid had two assists to extend his point streak to seven games (five goals, five assists).

"He's such a great player that everyone on the ice is watching him when he has the puck," said Red Wings goalie Jonathan Bernier, who made 38 saves. "He's such a great passer that he will set up a lot of goals by finding open guys when he has all that attention."
Jacob de la Rose, Danny DeKeyser and Tyler Bertuzzi scored for Detroit (4-8-2), which had won three in a row.
"We just didn't compete well enough to stay with that team," Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. "We spent too much time watching them play, and we can't win like that."
Caggiula gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead 12 seconds into the first period. McDavid beat Dylan Larkin to the puck behind the Detroit net and passed to Caggiula, who beat Bernier short side.

De la Rose tied it 1-1 at 14:52, scoring on a one-timer off a pass from Gustav Nyquist behind the net after Koskinen had saved two shots by Michael Rasmussen.
Chiasson scored to make it 2-1 at 1:15 of the second period on a one-timer off a pass from McDavid into an open net on a delayed penalty. Chiasson has six goals in his past seven games.
The Red Wings nearly tied the game at 3:41, but Koskinen slid across the crease to make a glove save on Martin Frk.
"That was unbelievable," Brodziak said. "It was one of those when you see all that open net and you start to turn away, and then his glove comes out of nowhere."

Brodziak extended the lead to 3-1 at 14:29, receiving a pass from Jujhar Khaira and scoring on a one-timer in the slot after Zack Kassian forced a turnover by Dennis Cholowski.
"It took us a few games to really get going as a line, but there's been a lot of dialogue between us," Brodziak said. "We knew we were better than what we were showing."
DeKeyser cut it to 3-2 at 19:24 when his shot from the point hit the end boards and deflected off Koskinen's skate into the net.
"Things like that happen in a game, but you have to play through them," McLellan said. "We didn't give up the momentum after that."
Brodziak gave the Oilers a 4-2 lead at 8:57 of the third period, banking a shot in off Bernier's shoulder after a pass from Khaira.
"We need a team effort to win, and when we see the other three lines scoring, we want to be a part of it," Khaira said.

Bertuzzi cut it to 4-3 with 1:26 remaining, batting a rebound in the slot five-hole on Koskinen.
"I felt like we were in control all night, but they certainly hung around the whole time," McLellan said. "The key was that we never panicked. Even when they got the game to one goal, we stayed calm and did what we needed to do."

They said it

"I honestly don't remember my last goal with this team. I don't even know if they keep video from that far back. I've tried to see some of my Oiler goals, and they are tough to find." -- Oilers forward Kyle Brodziak, who last scored for Edmonton on March 27, 2009

EDM@DET: Brodziak roofs puck for second goal

"They scored on the first shift of the game and we were on our heels for most of the first period. Then they basically scored on the first shift of the second period and we were on our heels for even longer. We have to respond better than that." -- Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill
