Six Stars score in win against Oilers

Benn, Radulov each has goal, assist to help Dallas end three-game losing streak

by Sean Shapiro / Correspondent

DALLAS -- Antoine Roussel had a goal and two assists to help the Dallas Stars defeat the Edmonton Oilers 6-3 at American Airlines Center on Saturday.

Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov each had a goal and an assist, and Ben Bishop made 18 saves and had an assist in relief for his eighth win of the season.

Roussel began the game on the third line but was moved up to the top line with Benn and Radulov early in the first period.

"I looked at our body language, fourth game in six nights, and I just felt I had to give us every chance to win the hockey game," Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said of moving Roussel. "I didn't like our energy. At the start, we looked tired. We looked lethargic."

The Stars (10-9-1), who had lost their past three games, scored on their first two shots.

Roussel scored his second goal of the season at 6:36 of the first period. He tracked down a dump-in by Benn and banked a shot off goalie Cam Talbot's skate from below the goal line.

"Just try to go wide and saw him moving, and took a chance a little bit there," Roussel said

Radulov gave Dallas a 2-0 lead at 8:57 when he beat Talbot with a wrist shot after a drop pass by Roussel.

Drake Caggiula scored twice, and Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists for the Oilers (7-11-2).

Caggiula got the Oilers within 2-1 with a shorthanded goal at 16:54 of the first period off a pass from McDavid.

McDavid tied the game 2-2 with a power-play goal at 17:46, scoring his 10th goal of the season on a rebound.

Caggiula scored his second goal and gave Edmonton a 3-2 lead 42 seconds into the second period. Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen was pulled after the goal; he allowed three goals on 12 shots.

"I think [Lehtonen] saves us a lot in that first period," Stars forward Tyler Pitlick said. "So I think it was kind of sending a message that we need to get going, and we did."

Devin Shore tied the game 3-3 at 7:57 of the second period when his shot deflected off Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom.

"They stuck with it a little bit longer than we did, scored some ugly goals, but those all count," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "As a result, we're on the losing end."

Radek Faksa gave Dallas a 4-3 lead at 18:39 of the second period.

Benn made it 5-3 at 13:30 of the third period on assists from Roussel and Radulov. Jason Spezza scored a power-play goal with 1:48 remaining after a stretch pass from Bishop, giving Dallas a 6-3 lead.

Talbot made 15 saves.

They said it

"This was a strange game in my opinion. The first two shots go in. We got the start we wanted, we played exceptionally well, we were pressing. When they score on their first two shots, that puts you behind the eight ball, and when you haven't won a lot, you're concerned about how the team will respond, and we responded real well. We came back, we pressed and pushed, and then it got away from us a little bit later in the game. The [fifth and sixth goals] that we gave up, we're gambling a little bit. We have to at that point in the game." -- Oilers coach Todd McLellan

"Man, playing with [Radulov] and [Benn] is a great experience. Every time we got a chance to play with those guys we just ramp up the intensity, play simple, and go to the net and good things happen, and that happened tonight." -- Stars forward Antoine Roussel on playing with Alexander Radulov and Jamie Benn
