Blackhawks

Anton Forsberg made 32 saves to help the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-1 win against the Edmonton Oilers at United Center on Sunday.
It was Forsberg's second win of the season, first since Nov. 11.

"I've been waiting for a while, I think it was my first win in regulation, too, so I'm happy," Forsberg said. "It's nice to get a win, but at the same time, I have to keep playing and get more wins, for sure. But that's a good start."

Nick Schmaltz, Alex DeBrincat and Jordan Oesterle scored for the Blackhawks (20-15-6), and Vinnie Hinostroza had an assist to extend his point streak to five games (two goals, five assists).
Darnell Nurse scored for the Oilers (18-22-3), who have lost two straight games and six of seven. Cam Talbot made 25 saves.

"I don't think anyone here is happy with the recent stretch of results," Nurse said. "It just comes down to us on the ice executing what we draw up on the boards. Comes down to us outcompeting other teams, and that's not something we're doing right now and we've got to fix it."
Schmaltz scored at 8:03 of the first period to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead, getting to a loose puck in front and tucking it past Talbot.
DeBrincat made it 2-0 at 9:29 when his centering pass bounced off the skate of Oilers forward Mark Letestu and into the net.

"The bounce off [Letestu's] foot into the net, that evens out with a couple of glorious opportunities they had and they didn't score on them as well," Edmonton coach Todd McLellan said. "Usually the bounces, for the most part, end up even. We didn't have numerous opportunities, we had a few opportunities in the offensive zone where we could have taken advantage and maybe put a little pressure on them to open up a bit, but they checked well down the stretch."
Nurse scored at 4:12 of the second period to make it 2-1. He took a pass from Michael Cammalleri in front and swept a backhand shot under Forsberg's pads.
Saad redirected a Jonathan Toews shot past Talbot with 10 seconds left in the second to give Chicago a 3-1 lead. Hinostroza got the second assist.
"I thought we had a real good game in a lot of ways, I thought we had real balance on our lines, and we were a lot better in the checking areas of the game, and didn't give up a lot of chances," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "I thought we played with a real purpose. But good response off a funny and a tough way to lose the other day (5-4 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday)."
Oesterle put the Blackhawks ahead 4-1 at 9:52 of the third period on a shot from the point through traffic. He spent part of the past three seasons with the Oilers and has scored two of his three goals this season against them.
"We got a big win tonight," Schmaltz said. "We have to keep rolling on these home games we have coming up and just try to stay with it. Lot of games left, but at the same time, every game is important."

They said it

"It's a humbling game. There are times when you are on cloud nine and times when you are at the bottom of the barrel. I don't think the last few games were a lack of effort, just some minor mistakes that lead to big goals against, and we just haven't been able to find the back of the net, either." -- Oilers forward Milan Lucic
"I don't know, it's tough to say. We're keeping it simple, getting pucks in deep and letting our skill take over. When we put in the work and check defensively - you see we get the top line role tonight - when we check defensively well, we're getting rushes the other way and we're capitalizing on our chances." -- Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad on the success of his line with Jonathan Toews and Vinnie Hinostroza
