"The bounce off [Letestu's] foot into the net, that evens out with a couple of glorious opportunities they had and they didn't score on them as well," Edmonton coach Todd McLellan said. "Usually the bounces, for the most part, end up even. We didn't have numerous opportunities, we had a few opportunities in the offensive zone where we could have taken advantage and maybe put a little pressure on them to open up a bit, but they checked well down the stretch."
Nurse scored at 4:12 of the second period to make it 2-1. He took a pass from Michael Cammalleri in front and swept a backhand shot under Forsberg's pads.
Saad redirected a Jonathan Toews shot past Talbot with 10 seconds left in the second to give Chicago a 3-1 lead. Hinostroza got the second assist.
"I thought we had a real good game in a lot of ways, I thought we had real balance on our lines, and we were a lot better in the checking areas of the game, and didn't give up a lot of chances," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "I thought we played with a real purpose. But good response off a funny and a tough way to lose the other day (5-4 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday)."
Oesterle put the Blackhawks ahead 4-1 at 9:52 of the third period on a shot from the point through traffic. He spent part of the past three seasons with the Oilers and has scored two of his three goals this season against them.
"We got a big win tonight," Schmaltz said. "We have to keep rolling on these home games we have coming up and just try to stay with it. Lot of games left, but at the same time, every game is important."
