Hagelin thriving for Penguins in playoffs

Speedy forward contributing at each end of the ice

by Dan Rosen @drosennhl / NHL.com Senior Writer

TAMPA -- There was a time during his tenure with the New York Rangers that it appeared left wing Carl Hagelin was being typecast as a remarkably fast checker and penalty killer, a defensive specialist so to speak who didn't have much in the way of a consistent offensive game.

It might even be part of the reason why the Rangers didn't think he was worth the four-year, $16 million contract he got from the Anaheim Ducks last summer, after the Rangers traded him there for Emerson Etem, who didn't make it through the season in New York.

Tampa Bay has been outplayed most of Eastern Conference Final, trails 2-1

by Tom Gulitti @tomgulittinhl / NHL.com Staff Writer

TAMPA -- One of the narratives entering the Eastern Conference Final focused on the comparatively easier path the Tampa Bay Lightning had to the NHL's Final Four.

The Lightning were impressive in defeating the Detroit Red Wings, who finished with 93 points, in the first round and the New York Islanders, who earned the first wild card with 100 points, in the second round, taking each series in five games.

Penguins' speed overwhelms Lightning again

Pittsburgh's quickness too much for Tampa Bay in Game 3

by Dan Rosen @drosennhl / NHL.com Senior Writer

TAMPA -- Speed that fuels dominance from the Pittsburgh Penguins. This shouldn't be surprising anymore.

It certainly isn't to the Penguins players and coaches, who are so confident in their speed game and what it is doing to the opponent in the Stanley Cup Playoffs that they feel the only way they can lose to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Eastern Conference Final is if they beat themselves.
