Eakin's hat trick gives Swift Current season-opening 6-3 win over Moose Jaw @NHLdotcom

MOOSE JAW, Sask. - Cody Eakin scored three times as the Swift Current Broncos eased past the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-1 Friday night in the WHL season-opener for both teams.

The Broncos opened the scoring 3:46 into the first period when Jordan Peddle saw his shot go off the end glass, off the back of Moose Jaw goalie Todd Mathews and in. The Broncos rolled from there as Eric Doyle and Justin Dowling also scored.

Neal Prokop scored a power-play goal early in the second period to cut the Broncos' lead to 3-1.

Mathews allowed five goals on 25 shots before being replaced by Devin Dubyk, who made 16 saves in relief.

Travis Yonkman stopped 19 shots to earn the win.

The teams will meet Saturday night in the Broncos' home opener.
