Anaheim Ducks defenseman Sheldon Souray will spend the next 3-5 months recovering from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.
The Ducks announced Tuesday that Souray sustained the injury during an off-ice workout July 17. He had surgery July 25.
Souray, 37, had 17 points in 44 games last season, led the team with a plus-19 rating and was second on the team with an average of 20:44 of ice time per game.
To replace him, the Ducks signed free agent defenseman Mark Fistric to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not released, but the Orange County Register is reporting it?s worth $900,000.
Fistric, 27, had six assists and a plus-6 rating in 25 games with the Edmonton Oilers last season. In 282 NHL games with the Dallas Stars and Oilers, Fistric has three goals and 26 assists.
