Ducks GM not interested in rentals

The Anaheim Ducks have a plethora of young defenseman but general manager Bob Murray said Monday if he makes any move prior to the March 1 NHL Trade Deadline, it will be for players that can help in the long term, not just this season.
"Any young player deal would be a hockey deal, not a rental," Murray told the Orange County Register.

The Ducks have five defensemen age 25 or under: Cam Fowler (25), Sami Vatanen (25), Hampus Lindholm (23), Brandon Montour (22) and Shea Theodore (21). Lindholm and Vatanen are signed to long-term contracts but Fowler, Montour and Theodore each have a contract that ends after next season.
Anaheim could trade one or more of those defensemen for a forward, although Murray didn't tip his hand. Anaheim is 19th in the League with 2.61 goals per game.
"The phone has started to ring, not specifically about the young defensemen but more about teams preparing for the deadline," he said.
The Ducks are 29-18-10, five points behind the San Jose Sharks for first place in the Pacific Division. Anaheim has won the division each of the past four seasons.
