Ducks acquire Cumiskey from Avs @NHLdotcom
Looking to bolster their blue line, the Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman Kyle Cumiskey from the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night in exchange for defenseman Jake Newton and a seventh-round draft pick in 2013.

Cumiskey, 24, appeared in only 17 games for Colorado last season, tallying a goal and 7 assists. The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder was the Avs' seventh-round pick (No. 222) at the 2005 Entry Draft.

Newton, 23, was set to begin his second season with the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League. He went 2-7-9 in 48 games for Syracuse in 2010-11. A native of San Jacinto, Calif., the 6-3, 200-pounder played one season for Northeastern University before turning pro.

In the event Cumiskey plays in 45 NHL regular-season games this season, Colorado will instead receive Anaheim's fifth-round pick in 2012. Cumiskey has 9 goals and 26 assists in 132 NHL games.
