BRAMPTON, Ont. - Top prospect Matt Duchene scored the overtime winner as the Brampton Battalion beat the Kingston Frontenacs 4-3 to win their 11th straight on Thursday night in the Ontario Hockey League.
Duchene's 26th goal of the season came four minutes and 30 seconds into the extra period as the Battalion (35-14-1-1) avoided being upset by Kingston, the worst team in the OHL. The win puts Brampton into a tie with the Belleville Bulls for first place in the Eastern Conference.
Duchene, who sits second in Battalion scoring with 63 points, is on a six-game point streak, with four goals and four assists in that span. The Haliburton, Ont., native is second amongst North American skaters in the Central Scouting Bureau's midseason rankings, behind only John Tavares.
Jason Dale scored twice and Matt Clark added another for Brampton, which hasn't lost since dropping a 5-3 decision to the Barrie Colts on January 10th.
Nathan Moon had two goals and Ethan Werek also scored for the Frontenacs (10-31-6-3), who were looking to stun another division leader after beating the London Knights 3-2 in their last game.
Patrick Killeen made 28 saves for the Battalion, while Kingston netminder John Cullen stopped 35 shots.
