It took Yannick Riendeau and the Drummondville Voltigeurs less than a minute to spoil the Shawinigan Cataractes' final game at their 71-year-old arena.

Riendeau scored twice in a 45-second span of the third period as the Voltigeurs shaded Shawinigan 3-2 Thursday night in the Cataractes' swansong at the Arena Jacques Plante.

Riendeau's second of the game at 9:28 of the third period was the final goal scored at the venerable rink, which first opened in 1937. The Cataractes will begin play at a new 4,000-seat multi-purpose arena Dec. 27, when they return from the league's holiday break.

Drummondville (28-4-0-2) did its part to spoil the farewell, posting its franchise-record 16th consecutive win over the division-rival Cataractes (28-8-0-0) in front of 3,560 fans. The win propelled the Voltigeurs to the top of the Telus Central Division - and the QMJHL overall standings - by two points over Shawinigan. Drummondville has two games in hand.

Samson Mahbod opened the scoring for Drummondville with his 20th goal of the season 1:40 into the second period. Pierre-Alexandre Vandall drew Shawinigan even at 6:58. Both goals came on the power play.

Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll's unassisted goal 1:37 into the third period restored the Cataractes' lead, setting the stage for Riendeau's heroics.
