KENNEWICK, Wash. - Drew Owsley made 20 saves, Brendan Shinnimin scored a pair of goals and Jim Hiller was victorious in his coaching debut as the Tri-City Americans beat the Kelowna Rockets 6-1 in Western Hockey League play Saturday.
Brooks Macek, Jordan Messier, Johnny Lazo and Spencer Auchak also scored for the Americans, who outshot the Rockets 35-21 and won their ninth-straight home opener dating back to the 2001-02 season
"You want to be humble, but we played a good game," said Hiller. "(Balanced scoring) is going to be the strength of our team. We are deep up front and on the back end."
Kelowna got on the board at 19:00 of the second period as Tyson Barrie beat Owsley over his left shoulder on the man advantage.
