DraftKings Daily NHL Picks for Wednesday

The NHL Tonight crew makes its picks for top DraftKings players for Wednesday night including Dominic Moore and Matthew Tkachuk

  • 01:10 •

Each day this season,'s fantasy staff will provide daily picks for DraftKings NHL contests. This article includes expensive and value plays and should be used as a basis for your roster decision-making.

TOP CENTER: Ryan Getzlaf, ANA ($6,300)

Getzlaf quietly has been a point-per-game player since Dec. 30 (28 points in 28 games) despite being mostly separated from Corey Perry at even strength. His recent scoring spree has come on a line with Rickard Rakell and newcomer Patrick Eaves; he has 14 points, 13 blocked shots and 23 shots on goal in his past 10 games (5.0 DraftKings points per game). He has 25 points in 26 games at Honda Center, where the Anaheim Ducks play the St. Louis Blues. Getzlaf is averaging 4.0 DraftKings points in two games against them.

VALUE CENTER: Valtteri Filppula, PHI ($4,200)

Filppula has 14 points in 18 career games against the Pittsburgh Penguins, including two in as many games this season with the Tampa Bay Lightning. This game means more to the Philadelphia Flyers, who are fighting to remain in Stanley Cup Playoff contention. Filppula is on a line with high-volume shooter Jakub Voracek and is on the second power-play unit, offering exposure to quality scoring chances with low daily fantasy ownership.

TOP WING: David Pastrnak, BOS ($7,000)

Whether he's been on a line with Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron or more recently David Krejci, Pastrnak arguably has been the fantasy breakout player of the season to this point. He has 60 points in 62 games, including 20 on the power play. He'll put his nine-game point streak on the line against the Calgary Flames, who have won 10 straight. He scored one goal on three SOG against them Nov. 25. He's the same price as Vladimir Tarasenko with a higher DraftKings points per game average (4.3 to 4.1).

VALUE WING: Gustav Nyquist, DET ($4,700)

Nyquist has six points in the past five games for the Detroit Red Wings since returning from a suspension, with much of his production coming on the first line with Henrik Zetterberg. He faces the Colorado Avalanche, who are allowing the second-most DraftKings points to opposing wings. Nyquist, a late-season fantasy bounce-back candidate, is bound to eventually see a shooting percentage correction (6.7; nine goals on 134 SOG).

TOP DEFENSEMAN: Shayne Gostisbehere, PHI ($4,900)

Gostisbehere has fallen victim of the sophomore slump this season but is beginning to provide strong category coverage again with eight points, 14 blocked shots and 31 SOG in his past 10 games for an average of 4.1 DraftKings points per game (season average: 2.9). Gostisbehere has six points in as many career games against the Penguins and is worth drafting as an affordable first defenseman to allow flexible spending at other positions.

Brodie's DraftKings points-per-game average has spiked during Calgary's winning streak (3.1; season average: 2.2); he has six points, 17 blocked shots and 16 SOG in the 10-game span. Four of his six goals and six of his nine PPP have come at home, and he had 3.5 DraftKings points against the Bruins in their earlier game. After 17 points and a minus-22 rating in his first 52 games, Brodie has 12 points and is plus-5 in 17 games since the NHL All-Star break.

GOALIE SPOTLIGHT: Jimmy Howard, DET ($7,900)

The wins have been tough to come by for Howard, but not because of poor individual performance. The Red Wings entered Tuesday ranked 26th in goals per game (2.37) and 30th in power-play percentage (12.7 percent). Howard has missed a lot of time because of injury and is 6-7-1 when healthy despite leading the League in goals-against average (1.96) and save percentage (.934) among goalies with a minimum 16 games played. Howard looked sharp at home against the Chicago Blackhawks on March 10, his first game back from a knee injury. He is 7-2-2 in his career against the Avalanche.
