DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Oct. 31

by Eric Goodman / NHL.com

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

NOTE: These picks are for the 7-game night contests on Oct. 31 and does not include players from the 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. games.

Boone Jenner
C, Columbus Blue Jackets

DraftKings price: $3,900

The Blue Jackets are 2-2-0 since John Tortorella took over on Oct. 21 after coach Todd Richards was fired following an 0-7-0 start. Jenner, a depth forward, has flourished in the first four games playing for Tortorella with three goals, one assist, three blocked shots and 13 shots on goal. Jenner will try to extend his point streak to four games when Columbus hosts the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. The third-year forward has two goals, three blocked shots and six shots on goal in three games against the Jets.

Nail Yakupov, W, Edmonton Oilers

DraftKings price: $4,300

Yakupov is one of the most consistent forwards this season but has not yet seen his price in DraftKings reflect accordingly. The young wing has clicked with rookie Connor McDavid and they have been rewarded with top-line minutes as a result. Yakupov is in the midst of a seven-game point streak with two goals and seven assists and has three blocked shots and 20 shots on goal over that span. The Oilers on Saturday host the Calgary Flames, whom Yakupov has four goals, five assists, four blocked shots and 29 shots on goal against in 13 games.

Darnell Nurse, D, Edmonton Oilers

DraftKings price: $2,800

Nurse has made the most of his time with the Oilers after being recalled from the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League on Monday. The defensive prospect scored the game-winning goal in overtime and had two blocked shots and two shots on goal Tuesday at the Minnesota Wild followed by an assist, two blocked shots and a shot on goal in a 4-3 win against the NHL-best Montreal Canadiens on Friday. Nurse will play in his fifth NHL game Saturday against the Flames, so DraftKings owners should consider taking a flyer on him at just $300 above the minimum price.

Philipp Grubauer, G, Washington Capitals

DraftKings price: $6,900

Grubauer, the Capitals backup goalie, will get the start at the Florida Panthers on Saturday as reported by CSN Mid-Atlantic following the Capitals' 2-1 home win by starter Braden Holtby on Friday against the Blue Jackets. The Panthers have been offensively solid through 10 games this season with an average of 3.1 goals per game, but they could be without leading-scorer Jaromir Jagr (lower-body injury) and will be missing center Aleksander Barkov (out 2-4 weeks with an injured hand). Grubauer lost to the Panthers in the shootout in his only start against them on Dec. 13, 2013. He made 39 saves on 41 shots in that game.
