Donovan in, other changes possible for Islanders

by David Satriano /

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Defenseman Matt Donovan will make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut for the New York Islanders against the Washington Capitals in Game 6 at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday (3 p.m.; NBC, TVA Sports, SN).

Donovan played in 12 games during the regular season and had three assists. He has been a healthy scratch for each playoff game. With injuries to Lubomir Visnovsky, Calvin de Haan and Travis Hamonic, Donovan will be in the lineup.

"Donovan is going to play," coach Jack Capuano said. "He's been with us all year. He has worked hard so he is going to go for sure and most likely you are going to see [Scott] Mayfield or [Ryan] Pulock on the other side. Two different type players, so we will make that decision."

Mayfield, 23, played in five games for the Islanders in 2013-14 and didn’t score a point.

Pulock, 20, has yet to make his NHL debut. He had 17 goals in the American Hockey League with Bridgeport, including a team-high 13 on the power play. New York is 0-for-12 in the power play in the series.

If Mayfield or Pulock plays, it will be in place of rookie Griffin Reinhart, who replaced Visnovsky for Game 5.

"We got Visnovsky, Hamonic and de Haan out," Capuano said. “We only have a certain amount of players that we feel that we can put in so we are in a tough spot back there. But I believe in the kids that we have."
