Dominik Simon is expected to need 6-7 months to recover after the Pittsburgh Penguins forward had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder April 29.

Simon was injured Feb. 29 in a 5-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks. He scored 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) in 64 games before the NHL season was paused March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus.

Simon has scored 64 points (19 goals, 45 assists) in 173 games with the Penguins. He can become a restricted free agent after this season.

There is no timetable for the season to resume. Pittsburgh (40-23-6) is third in the Metropolitan Division, four points behind the Washington Capitals and three behind the Philadelphia Flyers.
