Fantasy picks: Two Devils appealing options

Taylor Hall, Cory Schneider among Oct. 25 DFS targets against Coyotes

by David Satriano @davidsatriano / Staff Writer

Each day this season,'s fantasy staff will provide daily picks for DraftKings NHL contests. This list of targets includes expensive and value options at each position to help you build a winning roster.

C - Victor Rask, CAR ($5,300)

Rask is tied for 19th in price among centers Tuesday and has averaged 4.4 DraftKings points per contest. The Carolina Hurricanes center has a point in every game this season, good for at least 3.0 points per contest in each. Rask has three goals and is tied for the Hurricanes lead in points (six). Rask's goals have come on 13 shots (23.1 percent), and the first-line center is a bargain at this price against the Detroit Red Wings.

C - Henrik Sedin, VAN ($4,600)

Sedin has helped the Vancouver Canucks begin the season 4-1-1 and has a point in four of six games. He also has a goal in three of his past four games, scoring 4.0, 7.0, 0.0, and 5.5 points respectively in the past four games. Sedin won't get many shots on goal (10) or blocks (one) but is always a threat to have a goal or an assist, and plays on the top power-play unit, which also should help his chances against the Ottawa Senators.

W - Jonathan Marchessault, FLA ($4,800)

The Florida Panthers wing has done an excellent job filling in for the injured Jonathan Huberdeau on the top line with Jaromir Jagr and Aleksander Barkov. Marchessault has three goals and seven points in five games (5.1 DraftKings points per contest). He has a point in four of five games including two multipoint games and has averaged 3.2 SOG per game. Marchessault had 18 points in 45 games last season and is on pace to top that if he remains healthy. At under $5,000, he's a good choice against the Pittsburgh Penguins if you want to spend money for an elite player.

W - Taylor Hall, NJD ($5,800)

The New Jersey Devils wing has a lot of things going for him in this matchup. All three of Hall's goals have come at home, where he has scored the winner each game, including once in overtime. Hall is averaging 4.0 DraftKings points per game but 7.25 in his two games at Prudential Center. He also gets to face the Arizona Coyotes, who have allowed more than four goals per game (21 goals in five games). Hall is due for another big game.

D - Zach Werenski, CBJ ($4,900)

The Columbus Blue Jackets rookie has a point in each of his first four NHL games (two goals, three assists) and has averaged four SOG per game. Werenski has been a big part of the power play, with three of his five points coming with the man-advantage, and has averaged 5.3 DraftKings points per contest. He should be a more than serviceable option against the Los Angeles Kings.

D - Alec Martinez, LAK ($4,300)

Martinez has managed to get points (one goal, three assists) and provide value defensively (11 blocks) in five games this season. The Kings defenseman had 9.0 DraftKings points two games ago, and followed that up with 2.5 in his most recent game. Martinez has points in three of five games this season but also has had at least four blocks in two of five games. His price tag is well below what he should be going for against a shaky Blue Jackets defense.

G - Cory Schneider, NJD ($7,900)

The Devils are 2-2-1 and could easily be 5-0-0 with the way Schneider has played. He's averaged 5.3 DraftKings points per contest despite winning two of five starts. Schneider has allowed nine goals but the Devils have scored eight in five games. He has a 1.80 GAA and .943 SV%. in five games and has had 31 or more saves in three of five. He likely is the top option on an 11-game schedule against the Coyotes, who have scored six goals in the past three games.

G - Carter Hutton, STL ($7,900)

Hutton will make his second start of the season for the St. Louis Blues against the Calgary Flames. He made 33 saves on 35 shots, including 15 in the third period of a 3-2 win against the New York Rangers on Oct. 15 and has the help of a solid defensive team in front of him. Hutton got 7.6 DraftKings points in that game and now faces a Flames team which has struggled early on in the season.
