DraftKings Daily Picks: Sunday

DraftKings Daily NHL Picks for Sunday

The NHL Tonight crew makes its picks for top DraftKings players for Sunday including Nick Foligno, Rickard Rakell and Nikolaj Ehlers

  • 01:20 •

Each day this season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will provide daily picks for DraftKings NHL contests. This list of targets includes expensive and value options at each position to help you build a winning roster.

C - Kevin Hayes, NYR ($5,000)

Hayes is second on the New York Rangers in goals (eight) and points (17) and has an extremely high shooting percentage (32.0). He has points in eight of his past 10 games (six goals, seven assists). Hayes didn't have a point against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday, but he's averaging 3.4 DraftKings points per game and plays for the highest-scoring offense in the League (4.1 goals-per game). It makes him a great play against the Florida Panthers, who have allowed 15 goals in four games.

C - Jay Beagle, WSH ($3,800)

Beagle has four goals and eight points in 17 games, including seven in his past 10 games for the Washington Capitals. His SOG total (26) and blocks (seven) are low, but his 2.3 DraftKings points per game are fair for his price. Washington will be without forward T.J. Oshie and likely without Lars Eller and Andre Burakovsky, putting more pressure on others, including Beagle, to step up against Columbus.

W - Rickard Rakell, ANA ($6,200)

The Anaheim Ducks forward is tied for 10th in price at his position, but ranks second in DraftKings points per game (4.2). Rakell is averaging a point per game (five goals, four assists in nine games), including two three-point performances, and scored a goal in his previous game against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday. Rakell will face a Los Angeles Kings team on the back end of a back-to-back set and has seven points in 11 career games against them.

W - Gustav Nyquist, DET ($4,900)

Nyquist has three goals and 11 points in 18 games this season, including points in two of his past three games. The Detroit Red Wings forward is averaging 2.6 DraftKings points per game and has had at least 3.0 points in two of his past four games. He's averaging more than two SOG per game and gets a great matchup against a Calgary Flames team ranked in the bottom third of the League allowing 3.3 goals-per-game and ranked next-to-last in penalty killing percentage. Expect Nyquist to figure in on the scoring.

D - Mike Green, DET ($5,000)

True, each of Green's three goals came in the same game this season, but he does have four assists in his past 10 games. Green has also averaged more than a block per game this season and has 24 SOG in his past 10 games. He's averaging 3.0 DraftKings points per game and will see power-play time against the Flames. Whether it's Chad Johnson or the struggling Brian Elliott in goal for the Flames, the scoreboard likely will tilt in favor of Green and the Red Wings.

D - Brady Skjei, NYR ($3,400)

Skjei has been a pleasant surprise offensively for the Rangers, with 11 assists in 18 games, including nine in his past 10 games. He has 15 blocks, so he's good for 1-2 per game. Skjei is playing top-pair minutes and as long as the Rangers offense continues at this clip, he'll at least chip in with some assists. The Rangers are 8-2-0 at Madison Square Garden, outscoring opponents 45-16.

G - Cam Ward, CAR ($6,900)

On a five-game day, Ward remains one of the cheaper options. His numbers may not be great (2.47 GAA, .912 SV%, 3.8 DraftKings points per game) but he has won three straight games, allowing three goals, including a 22-save shutout against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday. He has 7.2, 9.4 and 6.0 DraftKings points respectively in each of his past three games. It won't be an easy game against the Winnipeg Jets, but this against-the-grain pick could pay off.

G - Jimmy Howard, DET ($7,900)

Howard's record may only be 4-4-0, but he has a 1.71 GAA, .945 SV% and is averaging 5.4 DraftKings points per game. Howard has allowed two goals or fewer in eight of nine games, the lone blemish was allowing five goals on 25 shots in a 5-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Nov. 12. As mentioned, it's an appealing matchup against a Flames team that is struggling to score and without forward Johnny Gaudreau. If Howard doesn't start, go with Petr Mrazek ($7,900).
