PHILADELPHIA -- New Jersey Devils forward Dainius Zubrus has played more than 1,000 games in the NHL, and even he can't believe what's going on with his team right now.
Mired in a 10-game winless skid (0-6-4), Zubrus is positive his team is playing far better than its current record shows.
"Since my injury I've played seven games, and other than maybe the first game, we've played five, six games and honestly they're as good as any of the games I've played in my career and not get a point," he told NHL.com. "It's been five or six in a row like that."
The Devils have out-shot their opponents eight times in their 10-game skid, including seven straight, and defensively they've held three straight opponents -- and four of the past five -- to fewer than 20 shots. But they have 16 goals in their 10 games, and have been shut out in two straight.
The Devils will enter their game Thursday against the Philadelphia Flyers (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN) having gone 120:37 without a goal, since Matt D'Agostini scored with an extra attacker in the final minute of their game April 10 against the Boston Bruins. The last time the Devils scored with just five skaters on the ice was 5:58 into the third period of that game against the Bruins.
"I think we have played pretty good," Zubrus said. "I think we definitely played good enough to get points out of the games and we haven't. We just have to do more of the same. I think if you look at our last game, or even the game before that, we're clearly outplaying teams, but we're not scoring and that's been our problem. I think eventually all those chances we're creating, I'm sure they'll go in, and when they do, we'll win games."
The Devils will have one lineup change: Jacob Josefson returns after being scratched the past three games. He'll replace Andrei Loktionov in the lineup.
Here is what the Devils' lineup likely will look like when they take the ice at Wells Fargo Center against the Flyers on Thursday:
Patrik Elias - Travis Zajac - Steve Sullivan
Dainius Zubrus - Adam Henrique - David Clarkson
Alexei Ponikarovsky - Jacob Josefson - Matt D'Agostini
Ryan Carter - Stephen Gionta - Steve Bernier
Andy Greene - Adam Larsson
Henrik Tallinder - Marek Zidlicky
Peter Harrold - Mark Fayne
Scratched: Andrei Loktionov, Krystofer Barch, Tom Kostopoulos
Injured: Ilya Kovalchuk (shoulder), Bryce Salvador (wrist)
Suspended: Anton Volchenkov
