Devils' Matteau to miss remainder of rookie camp @NHL

New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello told reporters Wednesday that forward Stefan Matteau likely will be sidelined for the remainder of the organization's rookie camp, which is being held this week at AmeriHealth Pavilion at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

"He's still sore," Lamoriello said. "There is no use pushing it. He's fine. He could've skated if we wanted him. For two days it's not worth it."

Matteau, the Devils' 2012 first-round choice (No. 29), has missed the past two days of camp and was seen watching Wednesday's practice session. Lamoriello said he doesn't believe Matteau will skate again this week.

"I think that's the plan, unless he jumps up and down and says he's better than he was when he was healthy," Lamoriello said. "I'm not sure he's going to say that."

Matteau played in 17 games for the Devils last season, totaling one goal, three points and a minus-1 rating. He was returned to his junior team, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, on March 17.

Prior to getting hurt, Matteau said he would enter the 2013-14 season with a different mindset than last season.

"I was so nervous, new kid coming in [last season]," Matteau told The (Bergen) Record. "But this year I???m more comfortable and I just want to prove to them again that I can stay. In September it???s going to be a whole different camp. It???s going to be with the big boys and I want to make a good impression there so I can stay."

In other news, Lamoriello said he hopes to have his three restricted free agents -- forwards Adam Henrique and Jacob Josefson, as well as goalie Keith Kinkaid -- all re-signed by the end of this week.

"Hopefully we'll have everything wrapped up by the end of the week ??? that's our intention," he said. "Until it's done, you don't know."
