NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey left wing Ilya Kovulchuk said Friday that the NHL?s punishment of the Devils for his original, rejected contract was unfair.
At the same time, he separated himself from the issue.
Kovalchuk took his physical along with the rest of the Devils at the Prudential Center on Friday in preparation for Saturday's opening session of training camp.
He said "it's always bad when your team is penalized." When asked if the NHL's $3 million fine and the loss of next year's third-round draft pick, along with another later on, was fair, Kovalchuk replied: "No, but that's the reality."
