The Devils lost 4-1 this afternoon to San Jose. PA Parenteau had the lone goal on the Devils first shot of the game. Here's what we learned:
1) It's hard to generate offensive opportunities when you spend nearly 10 minutes killing penalties. Credit to the Devils for killing all six power play opportunities for San Jose, including a 5-on-3 for 1:42 in the first period.

2) The Devils struggled to maintain puck possession today. While they scored on their first shot of the game, it didn't come until nearly 12 minutes into the game. They got more rubber to the net in the last 40, but most were one-and-done opportunities from above the hashmarks. There were very few second or third opportunities because of San Jose sustained offensive pressure.
3) John Moore logged 16:14 in his first game back after suffering a concussion on December 31st. He had one shot on goal, two hits, one take away and one blocked shot. Moore said there were some things he still wanted to work on after not playing for six weeks, but he felt good overall and was happy to be back with his teammates.
The Devils will practice tomorrow afternoon before hosting the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night.
