New Jersey Devils forward Dainius Zubrus will have surgery on his injured wrist Thursday, the team said on its website.

General manager Lou Lamoriello said Zubrus could be out from two to eight weeks.

Wednesday, the team acquired forward Alexei Ponikarovsky in a trade with the Winnipeg Jets and recalled forward Andrei Loktionov from Albany of the American Hockey League, according to reports.

"There’s no question that that played a factor in doing something aggressively at this time," Lamoriello said. "Zubrus will be going for exploratory surgery on his wrist (Thursday). We don’t know what the results will be. It could be anywhere from two to eight weeks and that we won’t know until the next 48 hours."

Zubrus had one goal and four assists in nine games this season.

Ponikarvosky, who played for the Devils last season, was acquired in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in 2014.

Loktionov was recently acquired from the Los Angeles Kings for a fifth-round pick. He hasn't played in the NHL this season but has seven goals and 14 points in 59 career games for the Kings.
