Shayne Gostisbehere signed a one-year, $4.125 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

The 30-year-old defenseman had 41 points (13 goals, 28 assists) in 75 regular-season games for the Carolina Hurricanes and Arizona Coyotes last season, including 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 23 games after he was acquired in a trade with the Coyotes on March 1. He had three assists in 15 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

"Detroit has a young team with a lot of skill, which is perfect for the way I play as an offensive defenseman," Gostisbehere said. "Playing with Carolina and getting to the conference finals was such a different atmosphere and I'm thankful I got to experience. I definitely want to get back to that level again."

Selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round (No. 78) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Gostisbehere has 311 points (87 goals, 224 assists) in 538 regular-season games for the Flyers, Coyotes and Hurricanes, and eight points (two goals, six assists) in 32 playoff games.

"We needed some right D and we wanted a defenseman who can contribute on the power play, and Shayne certainly fills those roles," Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman said Monday. "He's a left shot, but 50 percent of his 5-on-5 usage was on the right side, so he's very comfortable in that role."

Detroit also signed forwards J.T. Compher (five years, $5.1 million AAV), Klim Kostin (two years, $2 million AAV) and Daniel Sprong (one year, $2 million), defenseman Justin Holl (three years, $3.4 million AAV) and goalie James Reimer (one year, $1.5 million) on Saturday.
