Red Wings team scope
Goaltender Jared Coreau, coming off a 34-save shutout in a 4-0 victory against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday, will make his second straight start. Coreau is 3-1-1 with a 2.75 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in five career NHL starts, all this season. Petr Mrazek, who made 22 saves in a 2-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday, is 9-9-3 with a 3.06 GAA and .897 save percentage. "Just given the results in L.A., I went with Jared again," coach Jeff Blashill said. "I really feel like both of them are in a good spot." Coreau, who was recalled from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League after goaltender Jimmy Howard injured his knee against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Dec. 20, went 11-6-0 with a 2.18 GAA and .924 save percentage in the AHL. "I had fun," Coreau said after his first NHL shutout. "I like hostile environments. I'd rather play in a place that's louder than a place that doesn't have as much going on. For me, I take energy either way. I can feed off it whether it's for me or against us. It was good. It was a good win, not just for me confidence wise but for the team."
Sharks team scope
The San Jose Sharks will be without defensemen Marc-Edouard Vlasic (face) and David Schlemko (upper body) again when they try to end a three-game losing streak, which matches their longest of the season. Vlasic will miss his fourth straight game, and Schlemko his third straight. "It's a big game," center Logan Couture said. "We've lost three in a row. We don't want to go any further. That's when you start slipping in the division." The Sharks lost consecutive games to the Kings by one goal, the second in overtime, before losing 5-4 to the Minnesota Wild at SAP Center on Thursday, when they allowed four goals in the third period. "We know we need to be better," Couture said. "We did a lot of good things for the first two periods but had a little slip in the third. We need to have a nice bounce-back effort tonight." Forward Mikkel Boedker will return to the lineup and skate on the fourth line after being a healthy scratch Thursday for the first time this season. "You never agree with getting sat," Boedker said. "No player in history has ever agreed with getting sat out. But you just got to stay with it, you got to stay professional and make sure you do the job when you get back in the lineup. Today is a new opportunity to do good things out there and contribute to the team." Boedker has two goals and six assists in 38 games.
