Larkin-Hall 11-17

NEWARK, N.J. -- Dylan Larkin scored with 51 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 win against the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center on Saturday.

Larkin won a defensive-zone face-off against rookie Brett Seney and went in 2-on-1 with Anthony Mantha before getting a return pass and scoring on a shot from the right face-off circle.

"I told [Mantha] I'd try to get the puck to the left side to him and I did," Larkin said. "Then we ended up getting a 2-on-1 and he slipped it over last minute and I had the whole net ... it was a great play by him."

Luke Glendening and Michael Rasmussen scored, and Jonathan Bernier made 38 saves for the Red Wings (9-9-2), who trailed 2-0 late in the second period.
"There's no question that [Larkin] wants the big moment, and sometimes he wants it too much and he tries too hard and makes mistakes," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. "But there's zero doubt that he wants the moment."
Pavel Zacha and Blake Coleman scored, and Keith Kinkaid made 27 saves for the Devils (8-8-2).
"The majority of the game we did some things we wanted to do," New Jersey coach John Hynes said. "At the end of the day, we made some mistakes and they wound up in our net."
The Red Wings are 5-1-0 in their past six games and 8-2-0 in their past 10 after opening the season 1-7-2.
"Confidence is the biggest factor to success in the NHL today because of how close every team is and how close every player is," Blashill said. "I can't say that enough times. I don't know if it's understood totally from the outside, but it's the biggest factor. As you win, you gain confidence and certainly gain some swagger."

DET@NJD: Rasmussen nets the equalizer on tip-in

Rasmussen scored his third goal in the past three games off a deflection at 13:37 of the third period for a 2-2 tie. Hynes challenged for goalie interference, but the referee ruled New Jersey defenseman Ben Lovejoy caused Glendening to make contact with Kinkaid before the puck crossed the goal line.
"What a job by Glendening going to the net on that goal," Blashill said. "And good for [Rasmussen] to get his stick on it."
Zacha scored on a one-timer from low in the right circle to beat Bernier between the pads to give the Devils a 1-0 lead at 11:35 of the first period. It was Zacha's first point in 13 games this season.
"I thought we played really well in the first period and were rewarded," Zacha said. "We were in the offensive zone and had a lot of chances. I was happy it finally went in for me but the result of the game was that we lost."

DET@NJD: Coleman leads the rush for shorthanded goal

Coleman gave New Jersey a 2-0 lead when he scored shorthanded at 15:53 of the second on a 2-on-1 with Travis Zajac. It was the first shorthanded goal of the season for the Devils.

Detroit made it 2-1 when Glendening took a pass from rookie defenseman Dennis Cholowski and scored on a snap shot from the slot at 18:26.

They said it

"After our start, I think everyone was counting us out and here we are, the last 10 games, we've shown not only the League and our fans, but ourselves that we can play with every team on a nightly basis. We can win on the road and our power play and penalty kill have been good. We're having fun and rolling so we need to keep it going." -- Red Wings center Dylan Larkin
"We've made big plays at big moments, whether it's been a save, or a goal. Our goaltenders have played very well and we've gotten lots of net-front presence. Hopefully we've grown as a hockey team. That's what we've tried to do. We were in some really close games early in the season and we didn't win them, but now we're finding a way to win." -- Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill
"We are lucky we have back-to-back games so we can focus on the next game. We can't really afford to lose these games when we are winning. We have to stop thinking about it and play [Sunday]." -- Devils forward Pavel Zacha
