DET@CBJ: Werenski snaps puck home late in the 3rd

COLUMBUS --Zach Werenski scored the go-ahead goal with 1:19 remaining in the third period, and the Columbus Blue Jackets rallied to defeat the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 at Nationwide Arena on Monday.

After Werenski's shot from the blue line made it 4-3, Alexandre Texier scored into an empty net with three seconds left for the 5-3 final.
Yegor Chinakhov scored his first NHL goal to tie it 3-3 at 15:42 after Lucas Raymond gave the Red Wings a 3-2 lead at 13:31 of the third period.
"For us, it's belief in the room," Werenski said. "We are going to find ways to win. That's what we've been doing. When they took the lead, nobody panicked. If we stick to our game plan, we are going to win."
Chinakhov had a goal and an assist, Gustav Nyquist had two assists, and Elvis Merzlikins made 24 saves for Columbus (8-5-0).

Raymond and Dylan Larkin each had a goal and an assist, and Thomas Greiss made 33 saves for Detroit (8-7-2), which had won four of five.
"We were poised, we made plays, but just when we got the lead we didn't keep our foot on the gas and keep playing and keep making it hard on them," Larkin said. "Teams are too good, the League is too tight every night to play half the game. We've got to play a full 60 minutes."
Larkin gave Detroit a 1-0 lead at 14:45 of the first period with his seventh goal of the season.
Michael Rasmussen scored his first goal in 28 games at 4:23 of the second period to make it 2-0. He was along the left wall when Vladislav Namestnikov dropped a pass for a quick shot from 42 feet.
"I thought our first [period] was good and then after that I didn't think we played good enough hockey," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "I thought we're fortunate to have the lead, to be honest, and we made a couple of mistakes, and the next thing you know it slips away from you.
"We've talked about learning lessons while we're winning. But sometimes you've got to get slapped in the face, and we got slapped in the face tonight."
Boone Jenner cut it to 2-1 at 13:07 with a rebound of Nyquist's shot. Jenner leads Columbus with seven goals.

It was a reward for the Blue Jackets' perseverance, who after that goal had a 25-12 shot advantage.
"We were talking on the bench that there's no point in getting frustrated," Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen said. "We said, 'We have a lot of game here.'"
Adam Boqvist tied it 2-2 in his return from missing seven games with an upper-body injury. It was his first goal since being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade for Seth Jones on July 23.
Raymond put the Red Wings ahead when he took a pass from Tyler Bertuzzi in the bottom of the left face-off circle to score his seventh goal to lead NHL rookies. His 17 points are also first among rookies.
The goal by Chinakhov to tie it 3-3 started with a turnover in the neutral zone and a pass by Jakub Voracek to him in stride at the blue line. Chinakhov skated down the slot and scored through the pads in his ninth NHL game.
"He's had a lot of chances," Boqvist said. "Good to see for that guy, he's working hard every day. Pretty good shot as well. When he saw it go in, the fans went crazy."
